In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Hiroyuki Takei’s Shaman King manga, a website has been launched to announce that the series will be resuming with a new story. Takei will pen the new chapters, which are to be published in Kodansha’s Shounen Magazine Edge in Spring 2018.
Takei drew his original Shaman King manga in Weekly Shounen Jump in Summer 1998. The series ran for a total of 288 chapters before ending in Summer 2004. A reprinted edition was published in Jump SQ. between 2008 and 2009 and featured the series’ “true ending.” Studio Xebec adapted the manga into a 64-episode TV anime, with direction by Seiji Mizushima in 2001.
4Kids Enterainment formerly held the anime’s license in North America and produced the English dub. Viz Media licensed the manga and published the original series between 2003 and 2011.
